Rye Whiskey
NYDC’s founders launched a distillery in 2011 with a single-minded dedication to rye whiskey – it’s the only whiskey we make as it stands at the origins of New York’s (and America’s) cocktail culture. They discovered Horton Rye, an heirloom grain whose story begins in the 17th century with a family that helped settle…Rye, NY. Bred and grown to savor rather than commoditize, it is the heart of a new rye that is defiant and bold, a rye that has been nurtured with patience and joy for 13 years from a grant of 10 seeds to over 200 acres of amber waves of grain that are poised to sustain and grow this brand for years to come

Jaywalk is inspired by the spirit and attitude of New York—bold, self-confident, and unapologetically single minded.
This attitude is exactly how Jaywalk Rye began. Going against the grain and starting with 10 seeds of a lost and forgotten varietal and a constant pursuit of flavor. It is a modern brand steeped in about as much history as any whiskey ever has been, both by its origin and its goal to capture a generation-spanning spirit of New Yorkers – their individuality, purposefulness, energy, and attitude.

LEADING
THE RYE REVIVAL
New Yorkers are dreamers. Whether you were born here or made this city your home, we share a drive to create — to defy convention, to prove doubters wrong, to double-down on ambition.
When New Yorkers dream, we dream big.
It’s here that Allen Katz and Tom and Bill Potter converged from paths of creativity and curiosity to pursue the dream of an urban distillery that would be the focal point for revitalizing one of the most important American spirits: rye whiskey.
More than a decade in the making, Jaywalk is the result of a singular focus on a long-forgotten grain varietal. It’s a New York comeback story.
